Sunday 11th February saw the Annual Hull Lourdes Sick Fund Rally for Hull and district at the church of Our Lady of Lourdes and St Peter Chanel in Hull. Due to Bishop John being unwell, the principal celebrant was Canon Michael Loughlin, the Episcopal Vicar for the city of Hull and the East Riding.

During his homily he spoke about the joy of Lourdes and how he looked forward to going as part of the Diocesan Pilgrimage. He also quoted a Hindu doctor who said, “that Lourdes should be on the National Health because all of his patients who have been, came back in a far better state as a result of going there”.

Fr Michael also blessed two of the wheelchairs purchased as part of the Hull Lourdes Sick Fund’s Wilberforce 2007 appeal. These chairs will be for the use of anyone going on pilgrimages from the area and are to be kept at St Charles Borromeo Church and Holy Trinity Church, both in Hull’s city centre. It is hoped a further four chairs will be taken to Lourdes this year to replace our aging stock of wheelchairs.
