Claire Shanks wries,
Dear Friends and Family,
This year, the HCPT York Group 122 has decided to organise a special event and put on a Summer Ball. We are privileged to be able to hold this at Hilton Hotel in York with Michelle McManus (Pop Idol winner, You are what you eat) as guest speaker at the event.
Many of you will know I have been involved with the HCPT - The Pilgrimage Trust for 16 years. The Trust takes disabled/disadvantaged children to Lourdes on a pilgrimage holiday every Easter.
Group 122 in York will again be taking a group of children as part of the main pilgrimage next Easter supported by helpers all from the York area.
One of the group’s challenges is fundraising to cover the cost of taking each child. In 2008, this will be £580, before day-to-day expenses are even taken into account. In addition, all helpers who accompany the children to Lourdes not only give up a week of their own time but also meet their own costs. You will agree this is a significant commitment.
The Ball will be held on Saturday 12 July 2008. Tickets will cost £30 per person and will include a three-course dinner (with vegetarian option) plus coffee, followed by dancing to suit all tastes. Dress code is optional – black tie or lounge suit.
We are looking for support from family and friends to join us for the evening and making it a unique event. A booking form is attached giving full details. Please note that we will require the balance by 31st May (the Editor writes - this notice arrived too late for May’s Voice so please pay the balance to Claire as soon as possible).
I look forward to hearing from you.
With love and best wishes
Claire Shanks
